Artist Statement
My life has always been intertwined with line and thread, which have marked many precious moments and memories for me. In my early years, I spent a lot of time in my father’s shop, where he was a creative tailor. I listened to the various conversations he had with his customers, some deep and some simple. All of them required me to pay attention and to understand the events and connect them with a thread of ideas, just like the thread that my father used to sew random fabrics together in certain ways, creating elaborate pieces of art that were ready to wear and impress everyone with his high level of dedication and craftsmanship.

As I grew older, my relation with thread increased, but in a different way and form, which was the line, the second simplest expressive element after the dot. I saw international artists breaking boundaries and producing truly creative works. I followed their footsteps and created my own works, mostly expressive portraits. But after a while, this became usual for me. This was not exactly what I wanted from the line. I wanted to give it more freedom, in direction and thickness, and to free myself from the imagined, conventional idea and rebel against it. I wanted to be satisfied with only shaping what the sense of the idea demanded at that moment. This led me to the latest abstract style I called it "Free Thread Forming", which I am still working on developing and refining. This is a unique style that gives me complete freedom to express what I think or feel or to take the role of another person in this expressive process, a person who may have ideas but may not be able to express them because words cannot capture them. This is where my role comes in, to extract them and bring them to light in another way, more eloquent than words.

Artist Biography
Yahya Idris is a versatile and talented artist who was born and raised in Shendi, Sudan. His artistic journey began at the age of seventeen, when he started to teach himself various aspects of art, both theoretical and practical. He nearly mastered the basics of composition, three Arabic calligraphy fonts, nature drawing, portraits, still lives, and even sculpture, as well as the color theory and history of arts, before pursuing higher education.
In his hometown, Yahya's remarkable skills earned him the opportunity to participate in many exhibitions for adults, despite his young age. One of his notable exhibitions was the group exhibition at the Nile Festival for Tourism and Shopping 2012, where he received support and advice from professional artists to develop his artistic career. His outstanding work also led him to be chosen, along with others, to represent Sudan in Jordan at the International Arab Youth conference 32nd in 2012.
Yahya studied architecture at the university, which enhanced his abilities in design, artistic and conceptual composition, and other details that influenced his artistic approach. During his bachelors’ studies, he collaborated with other artists to form an art group called Terabithia, which organized workshops and artistic events. This group later evolved into the Terabithia Art Zone in Khartoum North.
Yahya currently resides in Dubai, UAE, where he is developing a unique abstract style that reflects his general experiences in life so far. He traces his style back to his early beginnings, when he was fascinated by the scribbling style, which relied mainly on lines in composition. Yahya's connection with the lines was inspired by his association with the thread, which was related to his family's profession. His father was a skilled and meticulous tailor, who made clothes from different textiles, and his mother used to create artistic pieces from crochet threads. Yahya saw all this as part of his daily life, which had a direct and early impact on him and directed him towards art. Later on, he developed an artistic personality that paid great attention to the details and the complete consistency of things in general in life, and this was clearly reflected in his various works.
As a DESIGNER
|
Design has always been my passion since I was a child, when I enjoyed coordinating and organizing things. I realized later that this skill was essential for design, which became my main interest and attraction. This was one of the two reasons why I chose to study architecture as a university major. The other reason was that architecture is a wonderful field that blends art and science to create different spaces that fulfill their functions and aesthetics in the best way possible.
My architectural education helped me understand the fundamentals and theories of design, so I easily transitioned to the field of graphic design. I was drawn to it by my love for designing logos and brands, which I used to sketch as a side hobby. But soon, this hobby became my primary work, and I immersed myself in it.
My design interests are not limited to architecture and graphics, but also include furniture design, fashion design, and others. However, graphic design is my favorite among them.
Now, I am based in Dubai, where I am working on developing my various design services to be among the best in the region and beyond. I strive to improve my skills and quality whenever I have the chance. This is my passion and the work that gives me the most pleasure. I aim to create creative works at a high level that match my aspirations on my long journey to global recognition.
